Should Have Never Happened

4-Year-Old Suffers Brain Damage after Dentist Visit

From the article:

A Houston family is considering a lawsuit against a dentist after their child suffered brain damage from multiple seizures during the visit. Attorneys say the seizures were brought on by the use of several sedatives and a sometimes controversial restraint device.

I find this so disturbing and incredibly heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what that child went through. Btw, I used to work for a dentist, though I was not involved in working on patients. When you work in that environment, you will learn things you otherwise wouldn’t know. And I do have my own opinions on some things.

First of all, “no child” should be in a dentist chair for “hours”.  No one should ever schedule that many procedures at once. Ever. Personally this seems like maybe? that was done for convenience. Parent’s should be in the room. If someone tells you it’s in the best interest of the child for you not to be there…R-U-N. In my opinion that’s a lie. If your child won’t behave in your presence then perhaps someone else for whom they will behave better should be with them. I’m just saying.

Being in the “business” you hear horror stories. Such as dentists who put their hand over a child’s nose and mouth until they calm down if they are upset. They can’t get away with stuff like that if you are in the room. There are reasons people are terrified to go to the dentist, and it usually starts in childhood.

The next thing I’d like to mention is that “laughing gas” is not for everyone and some people have side effects. Bad one’s in some cases. And if you have that type of reaction…just exactly how long do you think it’s going to take for paramedics to come to your aid? I don’t want to scare you, then again maybe I should? Dentist’s are NOT anesthesiologist. You know, people who specialist in putting people to sleep.

Lastly, not only would I sue this dentist but I would sue the agency that let her practice after other complaints. Yes, indeed I would. How do you get rid of bad dentist’s and doctor’s? You sue them to oblivion.

Of course, some dentist’s/doctor’s avoid getting sued because they pay off the patient. Don’t ask me how I know that.
