Some People Never Know When to Give Up…

Michelle O declares war on school lunch foes: ‘I’m going to fight until the bitter end’

“I’m going to fight until the bitter end to make sure that every kid in this country continues to have the best nutrition that they can have in our schools,” the first lady recently said at a White House event, according to

Mrs. Obama even mocked the GOP effort in an opinion column and argued her case before her Twitter followers.

“Remember a few years ago when Congress declared that the sauce on a slice of pizza should count as a vegetable in school lunches?” she wrote in The New York Times. “You don’t have to be a nutritionist to know that this doesn’t make much sense. Yet we’re seeing the same thing happening again with these new efforts to lower nutrition standards in our schools.”

As for the reason that Congress could say that pizza sauce is a vegetable…..because it’s make out of tomato paste which is concentrated tomatoes. Any cook knows that.
From Wikipedia:

Tomato paste is a thick paste that is made by cooking tomatoes for several hours to reduce moisture, straining them to remove the seeds and skin, and cooking them again to reduce them to a thick, rich concentrate.

It’s concentrated. So could an 1/8 of a cup be equivalent to 1/2 cup of fresh? Of course. And actually counted as a vegetable? Duh!

I wonder if Michelle even knows how to cook? Probably not.

I’m not a nutritionist either, yet even I know what pizza sauce is made from. And have I made it from scratch?…..yup!  And what do I use? Tomato paste.
