CDC director warns of ‘post-antibiotic era’
From the article:
Frieden warns that 23,000 Americans die from drug-resistant infections annually. He also said hundreds of thousands of cancer patients rely on antibiotics after chemotherapy because their immune systems become compromised.
Even though Congress has passed laws to give drugmakers more incentives to develop new antibiotics, such as longer patent exclusivities and faster pathways to get their drugs on the market, they have been reluctant.
The companies that make antibiotics are “reluctant” to developing new antibiotics? Really?
Hmm,….so are they making enough money so that they don’t need to explore any further? Since when have drugmakers been reluctant to making more money? Probably, N-E-V-E-R. How about “if” people stop taking the drugs that the companies make the most profit from?
I’m sure there’s a good explanation. I just can’t seem to think of one. Can you?
